Q: How do I choose questions to put on a test?
A: Start with a side-by-side arrangement with the testbank on the left and an empty Test window on the right. To choose questions manually, click on a question to select it. Then drag it onto the test page and drop it where you want it. You can make multiple selections in the testbank window by holding down the Shift key or the Ctrl key while you select questions; then drag all of them at once onto the test page. Another opton is to select one or more questions and then click the Add Selected Items (in TG 5.5, Add to Test) button to copy the questions onto the test page.
To choose questions randomly, view only the chapter or section titles and select the title from which you want to select questios. In TestGen 7, click the Choose Multiple... button and enter the number of questions you want. In TestGen 5.5, at the top of the testbank window, enter the number of questions you want to randomly select from the selected section. Then click the Add to Test button to transfer the questions to the test page.
Q: How can I change the order of questions on a test?
A: To move individual questions, you can drag-and-drop to put them in the order you want.
You can also select "Sort" from the Question menu (in TestGen 5.5, the Tools menu) and make selections to sort by testbank order, by question type, or other custom sort orders.
You can also select "Scramble" from the Question menu (in TestGen 5.5, the Tools menu) to randomly reorder all the questions and answer choices on a test.
Q: How can I make multiple versions of a single test?
A: First create a test that contains all the questions you want. Then choose "Print" from the File menu. The Print dialog contains a box where you can type the number of versions you want. You can also choose to Preserve question order, Preserve number values (for variable test items), Preserve multiple-choice answer order, and Print a correlation of all the test items for all versions.
Q: How do I change the font and/or type size on a test?
A: After choosing all the questions for your test, be sure the Test window is the active window. Then select "Global Style Replacement" from the Tools menu (in TestGen 5.5, Setup menu). In the Global Style Replacement dialog, check all the items in the top panel except for Default Editor Styles. In the bottom panel, check the Font and Size boxes and select the new font and size you want. Then click the button to reformat your test.
Q: How do I make the answers for multiple-choice items stack one above the other or print across the page in columns?
A: In TestGen 7, you can control stacking or unstacking multiple-choice
answers by selecting "Preferences" and "Test Options" on the Tools menu. Click the Answers tab and select the option to display answer choices in rows (horizontal) or columns (vertical).
In TestGen 5.5, you can control stacking or unstacking multiple-choice answers by selecting "Preferences" on the Setup menu. Click the Answer Choices tab and check or uncheck the box to "Stack answer choices in one column.
Q: How do I change a paper test to a test for the web?
A: Open the paper test and choose "Save Test As" from the File menu (in TestGen 5.5, Save As). Select the type of web test you want and give the test a new name.
