TestGen quits unexpectedly

Hello!

I use a Mac operating system. Every time that I attempt to create a new testbank the program closes and I get an error message saying "TestGen closed unexpectedly. " The program closes right after I press "Create New Test Bank" after choosing the level of organization for the new test bank (1-5). It also happens when I select a testbank and I press "Testbank Setup."

Thank you so much for your help!

TestGen Forums:

The most likely cause of this is a corrupted preferences file. To delete the preferences file:

1. Quit TestGen.
2. In Finder, select "Go to Folder..." from the "Go" menu.
3. Enter "~/Library" in the dialog that appears.
4. Open the "Preferences" folder, and inside that, open the "TestGen" folder.
5. Delete the file "userpref.tpr".
6. Re-start TestGen.

It's also possible that this is caused by a corrupted library index file. In that case, follow steps 1 to 4 above, but delete the file "library.tgl" instead. After deleting the library index, you'll need to re-add testbanks to your library.

I am sorry, I did the two things you suggested and as soon as I press "Create New Test bank" when I choose the level of organization for the new test bank, please help me. I desperately need help.

Could you please help me with the last question, I do not know what to do!

Sorry for the delay in answering.

We released a new version of TestGen for MacOS (version 7.7) last Thursday. The publisher of your textbook should have it available for download; if so, you can see if it fixes the crash.

If not, more information will help me figure out what's going wrong. What version of TestGen are you running, and what version of MacOS are you running it on? After TestGen crashes, is there a testbank file in the location where you're trying to save it?

Mark

Pearson has not updated to the New 7.7 Version yet...so I cannot download it as of now. I have talked to Pearson and this was their response:
Hi Michelle,

I spoke with AP.

With Catalina just coming out for MAC it will take just a bit to have the update from vendors.
Once it is released it will be sent to you from your case.

Thank you, Michael

I am currently using: TestGen Version 7.6.5, MacOS Mojave Version 10.14.6. Ans yes, there is a testbank file created; however, it does not have the correct icon for the program (blank sheet) and it does not open when I double click it.

Thank you so much for your help! YOUR ARE SO HELPFUL!

The 7.7 version of TestGen is now available from Pearson. It should work just fine on your version of MacOS, so try downloading it and see if it fixes your crash.

I'm also having an issue with testgen quitting. I followed the initial suggestion but that doesn't work. I'm running the testgen that was released last month. It quits everytime I try to export the exam to a PDF or try to print the exam.

A crash during PDF export/printing would be a different issue. To confirm: you're experiencing this on MacOS, using TestGen 7.7? What version of MacOS are you running?

Mark

Yes, MacOS version 10.15.1 ; TestGen 7.7

Does this happen with every exam you try to print, or just one/a few?

Mark

I was able to export two exams (second just a scramble of the first) initially with no issues. After that everything I've tried to export/print has failed.

It sounds like it might be a problem with the exam. Could you contact us through the contact form (use the "Support request" category) to arrange to send us a copy of the file?

Mark

i'm sorry, you answered the other persons questions but you did not answer mine. Please help.

I can't even get TestGen to start on mine. MBAir, early 2014, OS 10.15.2

Versions of TestGen prior to 7.7.0 don't work with macOS 10.15 and newer. If you're running the latest version, 7.7.1, and are still having problems, please contact us through our contact form (select "Support request" as the category).

I have sent the request, but nothing back as of yet.
